Louisiana: Rumors And Insurrections

This Exhibit will be taking a closer look at Various Newspaper articles taken from the Accessible Archives webpage. Using the StoryMap website we will be examining the language that is being used to describe rebellions that involved enslaved individuals. We will be narrowing our focus on events that have occured in Louisiana. Within the StoryMap you will see a photocopy of an article. Each article has a specific portion zoomed in on. Due to the images illegibility I have also included the text versions to aid in our examinations. Below these articles I will be analysing the language these texts use, as well as the possible implications for avoiding terms such as "rebellion" or "uprising."

The next portion of the Exhibit will be a word cloud which was created using the Voyant webpage. The purpose of this cloud will be to illustrate which term is most frequently used when describing these rebellions. It will also allow for a closer illustration of the potential significance of using various word choices and associations. In other words, causation and effect.
